Sanrio Stock (8136): Price, Board Talking Points and Outlook
Sanrio (TSE: 8136) builds its business on character IP — Hello Kitty, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin — through licensing and its theme parks (Sanrio Puroland and Harmonyland), listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime market. It has set record profit for two straight years and trades near its 52-week high. Unlike most heavily discussed stocks, the debate here runs the other way: whether record growth can justify the current price. This page summarizes the board talking points as of July 2026, the state of the business, and how to read the stock.

Board and community talking points
Live posts were not directly harvested; the following is drawn from press coverage rather than individual posts. Themes visible as of July 2026:
- Record-earnings momentum. Japanese business press has described "character depth widening, licensing strong" and a "Pompompurin effect" (late June 2026), with the spread beyond Hello Kitty lifting profit.
- Valuation near the highs. A P/E around 22.8x and a P/B around 9.4x price in future growth, and the central debate is "reasonable for a growth stock" versus "too much expectation."
- Governance items. Around June 1, 2026 an inappropriate-compensation matter was disclosed, which the company described as having a "minor" impact on earnings; a lawsuit over the authorship of Kuromi (filed February 2025) is also ongoing. The results for the year to March 2026 were disclosed later than usual — around June 23 versus a typical mid-May — but no link to the compensation matter has been stated. These are observed themes, not our recommendation.
The business and what to watch
Sanrio's growth is led by reducing its dependence on Hello Kitty alone — deepening its character portfolio and expanding overseas licensing. The year to March 2025 set records with revenue of ¥144.9 billion (+44.9%), operating profit of ¥51.8 billion (+92.2%) and net profit of ¥41.7 billion, and the year to March 2026 set fresh records again with revenue of ¥194.1 billion (+33.9%), operating profit of ¥77.9 billion (+50.3%) and net profit of ¥54.6 billion. Guidance for the year to March 2027 is for further growth — revenue of ¥229.8 billion (+18.4%), operating profit of ¥89.5 billion (+15%) and net profit of ¥63.8 billion.
Management runs under a younger generation: Tomokuni Tsuji, a grandson of founder Shintaro Tsuji, became president in July 2020. Recent items include a plan to expand Harmonyland into a stay-type resort roughly five times its area (announced June 15, 2026), a joint game development with Wonder Planet (announced July 14, 2026), and overseas licensing growth across China, the US and Asia. The next earnings release, for the first quarter of the year to March 2027, is scheduled for August 10, 2026.
How to read the stock
The stock recovered from a year-to-date low of ¥818.8 on May 7, 2026, reached a 52-week high of ¥1,261 on July 17, 2026 and traded near ¥1,204.5 shortly after — that is, near its high. Note that a stock split was carried out during the 2024 run, so a simple comparison with pre-split levels is not possible (this page does not cite pre-split prices). The market cap is about ¥1.54 trillion and the dividend yield is around 1.3% (as of July 2026). Bulls point to two straight record years and higher guidance, room to expand overseas licensing, and theme-park investment. Bears note that a P/B around 9.4x prices in a great deal of future growth, so a slowdown or a turn in the governance matters could leave room for a valuation adjustment. The key premise for reading this name is that it is a highly-rated growth stock, not a struggling one. This page sets no price target.
