AnGes Stock (4563): Price, Board Talking Points and Outlook
AnGes (TSE: 4563) is a Japanese gene-therapy biotech on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth market. A spin-out from Osaka University, it works on HGF plasmid gene therapy and nucleic-acid medicines. The stock is down more than 98% from its ¥2,492 peak of June 2020, when COVID-vaccine hopes drove a mania, and trades around ¥48 as of July 2026. Japanese message boards debate two things above all: recurring dilution from serial warrant issuance — the "warrant bomb" retail investors track — and the fate of its US FDA biologics licence application (BLA). This page summarizes the board talking points as of July 2026, the business and its catalysts, and how to read the stock.

Board and community talking points
AnGes's board is an active penny-stock community where bulls and skeptics clash over how to read each catalyst. The recurring themes observed as of July 2026:
- The "warrant bomb" — dilution as a ceiling. The dominant theme is that as long as warrants keep being exercised, the upside is capped. Posters watch the monthly exercise disclosures closely and treat financing-driven dilution as a structural weight; some estimate a cash burn of about ¥500 million a month, though that is a poster estimate.
- A polarized FDA/BLA debate. A July 17, 2026 disclosure said a Pre-BLA meeting for Collategene in the US was deemed unnecessary, clearing a rolling BLA submission. Bulls read this as significant de-risking; skeptics doubt actual approval and point to the drug's Japanese history.
- Distrust from the Japanese Collategene failure. The 2019 conditional approval that never converted to full approval is cited as a reason to discount pipeline promises.
The sentiment widget reportedly reads about 78.8% "strong buy" against roughly 13.9% "strong sell" — long-term believers split against dilution skeptics — though that is a single dated snapshot that moves. These are observed views, not our recommendation.
The business and what to watch
AnGes's flagship was Collategene (an HGF plasmid for critical limb ischemia), which in 2019 became Japan's first gene-therapy product under a conditional, time-limited approval. It never reached full approval: AnGes withdrew the marketing-approval application in June 2024 and ended Japanese sales without formal approval. Its licence agreement with Tanabe Mitsubishi Pharma was terminated on December 1, 2025. Collategene is not approved or on sale in Japan — an important point, given how often the assumption resurfaces.
The current focus is the US FDA. After the Japanese withdrawal, AnGes redirected Collategene to the FDA, winning breakthrough-therapy designation in September 2024 and acceptance of the CMC (manufacturing/quality) section in May 2026, and is pursuing a BLA via rolling submission. On July 17, 2026 a Pre-BLA meeting was deemed unnecessary. Its manufacturing partner is reportedly Boehringer Ingelheim, from August 2025. Approval itself is a binary outcome and is not assured.
Finances and dilution. AnGes has posted losses every year since 2022 and pays no dividend; its equity ratio is about 43%, so it is not in negative net worth. Financing has relied on warrants: after a BofA Securities warrant exercise was suspended in March 2024, the company issued its 46th warrant series (floating exercise price) in November 2025 and discloses exercise status monthly; in February 2026 it approved unsecured convertible bonds of up to ¥2.738 billion. Emendo, its gene-editing subsidiary, moved operations from Israel to the US in November 2025, and a takeover-defense policy was introduced in February 2026. Among other pipeline assets, the Tie2 agonist AV-001 (with an ARDS Phase 2 readout expected in summer 2026) also draws board interest.
How to read the stock
The stock hit a 10-year high of ¥2,492 on June 26, 2020 on COVID DNA-vaccine hopes. The vaccine program was abandoned in September 2022 ("expected efficacy not achieved"), beginning a decline to a 10-year low of ¥43 on July 8, 2024. In 2026 it reached a year-to-date high of ¥71 on January 7 (reportedly on pipeline/FDA news), a year-to-date low of ¥44 on June 16, and traded at ¥48 on July 19 (down 4% on the day). Within this ¥43–71 penny band, the margin ratio was about 19.9x as of June 26, 2026, indicating speculative margin-long positioning. Market cap is about ¥19.1 billion, with a PBR of 9.87x — roughly 10x its book value per share of about ¥4.9 — a stock priced on retail expectations.
Bulls point to the FDA breakthrough designation and BLA optionality (a US approval could sharply re-rate a ¥19 billion company), a cheap "call option on Collategene," and the AV-001 ARDS readout due in summer 2026. Bears cite perpetual warrant dilution, the absence of product revenue after the Japanese withdrawal, a decade of losses, and a penny stock kept alive by financings after a 98% drawdown from its 2020 peak. This page sets no price target.
