Where is Przemysław Kral? The CEO of Zondacrypto can be tracked, but the lead may be false
Przemysław Kral's profile on platform X was assigned to the country "Republic of South Africa" in the "Location" section on July 6. This was noted by Dominik Konopacki, an investigative analyst from Recoveris, the same company whose on-chain analysis triggered the entire Zondacrypto scandal. We checked the account status on Thursday: the metadata now indicates Israel. In both readings, X displays its own warning that the data may be inaccurate due to the use of a proxy.
Is the CEO of Zondacrypto in Africa? There are clues and unconfirmed information
We wrote about the African lead on Wednesday after investigative journalist Szymon Jadczak from Wirtualna Polska reported that he received unofficial and hard-to-verify information about the arrest of the former CEO of Zondacrypto in Botswana. Nothing has been confirmed since then. Konopacki's post is the first public trace anyone has tried to connect with this lead.
Konopacki does not sell his finding as a breakthrough. He wrote that in the meantime, there was a temporary change in Kral's account location to South Africa, that the screenshot is from July 6, and that he considered it insignificant at the time, but in light of the reports about Botswana, it makes a bit more sense now.
Metadata from X is not proof yet
The "about this account" feature was launched in November 2025 and had problems from day one. X's product head, Nikita Bier, had to temporarily disable it, admitting that the data is not one hundred percent accurate for older accounts. Accounts of political parties and editorial offices showed countries where they never operated. Social media researchers and former platform employees immediately pointed out that the mechanism relies on geolocation of the IP address, so it can be bypassed with a regular VPN.
In Kral's case, there is no need to even discuss this in general terms. Next to the country field, there is a warning icon, and clicking on it reveals that one of the platform's partners has signaled possible use of a proxy by this account, such as a VPN, which may change the displayed country. The same icon is also visible on the July screenshot showing the mentioned South Africa.
However, there is another side. IP geolocation indicates the location registered by the network operator, not the physical location of the device. Traffic from Botswana largely exits to the world through South African infrastructure, and Gaborone, the capital of the country, is just a few kilometers from the border with the Republic of South Africa. A device operating in Botswana can therefore display as South African without any manipulation. However, the same effect is produced by a VPN exit node in Johannesburg. Two completely different scenarios produce identical records in the metadata, and from the outside, they are indistinguishable.
Nothing has changed in the case itself
The Regional Prosecutor's Office in Katowice has been conducting an investigation since April 17, examining fraud of significant value and money laundering. Customer losses were initially estimated at at least 350 million PLN, and the amount has grown. By mid-May, 104 devices and over 13 terabytes of data from the exchange's servers were secured, nearly 2,000 notifications were received, and inquiries were sent to over a hundred exchanges worldwide. A European investigation order was sent to the Czech Republic.
It is worth remembering how investigators have so far responded to media findings about Kral's whereabouts. When Onet reported in April about his trip to Israel, national prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk stated on Trójka that this had not been verified and that these were media reports. It is hard to assume that the reaction to the African lead would be different until there is a procedural action behind it.
A real confirmation would be a statement from the Katowice prosecutor's office, information about an extradition request, or a statement from the Botswana authorities. None of these have been made so far. A changed line in the metadata of the social media service is not enough to announce anything, and Konopacki himself does not do that either.
