Western investors are beginning to view Ukraine as a promising market for private investments, despite ongoing hostilities. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt and his wife Wendy have acquired stakes in commercial real estate funds that own shopping centers in Kyiv, with the deal amounting to $55-70 million. Schmidt has also invested in Ukrainian drone manufacturing companies. The Export-Import Bank of the United States has opened a $300 million credit line for Naftogaz to purchase American equipment. Ukraine's total gas reserves are estimated at $300 billion. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is raising over $570 million for decarbonization energy projects in Ukraine. Companies that operated in Ukraine before the war, such as McDonald's and Nestle, are expanding their operations, yet the influx of new private investors remains limited.
