Dellepiane Highway to Close for 24 Hours for New Pedestrian Bridge Construction
The City of Buenos Aires announced a complete closure of the Dellepiane Highway for 24 hours to advance with a new phase of the transformation works of this roadway. The interruption will affect both directions of traffic between Avenida Argentina and Escalada, where a pedestrian bridge will be installed at the height of Albariño Street.
The measure was confirmed by the Ministry of Mobility and Infrastructure, which reported that the works will be carried out by Urban Highways (AUSA).
The restriction will begin on Saturday, July 25 at 3 PM and will extend until the same hour on Sunday, July 26. During this period, all vehicles traveling on the highway will be diverted to the service roads.
Additionally, those wishing to avoid the construction area can use the Perito Moreno Highway to connect the 25 de Mayo Highway with General Paz Avenue.
According to the City Government, the total closure is essential to safely allow the assembly of the new structure.
The bridge will be located over Albariño Street and aims to connect both sides of the highway and facilitate access to the future central Metrobús station, which will be built between both traffic directions.
The structure will feature accessibility ramps, allowing use by people with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, and those with baby strollers.
To install it, a large crane will be necessary to place the two main beams of the pedestrian bridge. Each of these pieces weighs approximately 150 tons and measures 25.80 meters long by 4.50 meters wide.
The project is part of the initiative to convert the Dellepiane into the first Park Highway in the City. In this context, beams for another similar bridge on Basualdo Street have already been installed, in addition to the pedestrian bridge Piedra Buena, the new vehicular bridge over Río Negro, and the new northern service road with an additional access to the highway.
The comprehensive plan includes a series of interventions aimed at improving traffic flow and public transport in one of the main accesses of southern Buenos Aires. According to the City, the works will benefit about 200,000 vehicles that use the highway daily, as well as improve connectivity for 63,000 residents in the area and reduce travel times for approximately 15,000 public transport users.
Among the main improvements planned are:
- The reorganization of entrances and exits to optimize road safety.
- The complete replacement of side barriers and the incorporation of impact absorbers.
- The construction of new sections of the northern and southern service roads between Piedra Buena and Rucci.
- The continuity of the service roads below the Belgrano Sur Railway and Río Negro Street.
While the northern service road is already operational, the southern one will be inaugurated next month.
Another major intervention will be the construction of an exclusive bus corridor in the center of the highway. The Metrobús will extend from Piedra Buena to connect with the corridor of the 25 de Mayo Highway, featuring two-way traffic, six central stations, and will be separated from general traffic by concrete barriers.
Each station will have access via new elevated walkways with ramps, renewed signage, and lighting.
Once the project is completed, the City also plans to develop a four-kilometer linear park, with sports fields, an athletics track, children's playgrounds, aerobic stations, pedestrian paths, bike lanes, and a green corridor.
In parallel, hydraulic works continue on the Cildáñez basin, which will include the construction of two conduits of 2,700 meters in length and the installation of 247 new drains, aimed at improving drainage and reducing the risk of flooding during heavy rains.
